Buell motorcycles were Erik Buell's attempt to make an American sport bike that could genuinely compete with the European and Japanese machines - using Harley-Davidson V-twin engines in frames of his own design from 1987. The bikes were genuinely fast and technically innovative (perimeter brakes, underslung exhaust, fuel-in-frame). Harley shut down the main operation in 2009, which made the existing bikes collectible almost overnight. EBR and the new Buell have continued in various forms since.
