The LaPerm appeared in 1982 on a cherry farm in Oregon - a kitten named Curly was born bald and then grew in a curly coat that became the foundation of a new breed. The LaPerm has a soft, springy curl that ranges from loose ringlets to tight waves, depending on the individual cat. It comes in both shorthair and longhair versions. The breed was recognized by the International Cat Association in 2002 and The Cat Fanciers Association in 2008.
