The Himalayan was developed in the 1930s by crossing Persians with Siamese to get the Siamese point pattern on a Persian-type body. It took over 20 years of selective breeding to achieve a stable result. The Himalayan has the Persian's flat face, long silky coat, and calm temperament - plus the Siamese's blue eyes and point markings. It was recognized as a separate breed in 1957 by CFA, though some registries now classify it as a color division of the Persian.
